Watercolor: Mixing, Color Theory & Application

September 2 - October 7, 2010 (Thursdays, 6-8:30pm) — Transparent watercolors offer exciting options for mixing colors physically on the palette or optically with layers of color. This class will explore color theory basics, application and how to maintain transparency in watercolor while retaining vivid, rich color created by light bouncing off the white paper. It makes the medium unlike any other! Discover how to create the subtle colors found in nature. Compare palette mixed colors with the same colors created with glazed layers. See the affects of placing one color next to another and how that can be used affectively in a painting. Each week we will paint watercolor sketches to illustrate the principles learned in the class.
